Labor Day American Flag
With Labor Day just around the corner, this fast and simple kids craft is sure to be a hit with your youngster for the holiday!
What you will need:
– Extra large Popsicle sticks (7)
– Wooden dowel
– Red, white and blue acrylic paint
– Paint brushes
– Tacky glue
– Blue foam board
– Scissor
– Wooden small stars
The finished product looks similar to the picture on the right.
Instructions:
1. Paint both sides of 4 Popsicle sticks red.
2. Paint both sides of 3 Popsicle sticks white.
3. Let dry.
4. Cut dowel down to approximately 2 feet.
5. Paint dowel blue.
6. Let dry.
7. Cut blue square 2 ¾ inches from foam board.
8. Paint wooden stars white.
9. Let dry.
10. Once Popsicle sticks are dry, place red sticks approximately 1 inch apart. Glue white Popsicle stick on top of red Popsicle sticks going in same direction. Continue doing this until you have utilized all your Popsicle sticks and created a red and white theme.
11. Take blue square and glue on to left upper corner of flag.
12. Let dry.
13. Glue three white stars in a row on blue foam. Then repeat and glue three more white stars underneath the first three white stars on blue foam.(for a total of 6 white stars)
14. Let dry.
15. Glue wooden dowel to left side of flag and let dry.
Now your youngster can enjoy having a Labor Day parade! Other fun activities include, looking for pictures in magazines of articles that match what goes with what occupation, i.e. Plumber’s tools and make a plumber’s belt for your youngster to wear.
